tldr :
-grind incentives that give too much advantages over casuals are bad (ie: safe full of legendary shards, etc)
- grinds that grant unique rare cosmetics are a good carrot on a stick for endgame when people already have farmed their lodge and vendors, and already have stacked up blue / purple sets. Class campaigns are exactly that, but we need more than just that.
The game loop once people reach end-game (what I call endgame is; decent amount of materials for blue kits AND purple kits, legendaries aren’t truly “farmable” currently) is quite not there yet, because there isn’t anything “cool” to grind for. A lot of people just like to show off their own style and cosmetics would perfectly fill that void of giving us something to grind, but that isn’t at the detriment of “sunday players” or affecting gameplay in any way.
On top of that, every type of player can be interested in farming cosmetics; wether it is hardcore sweats or more casual players.
Suggestions for types of cosmetics :
- Backpack skins that show on the back of your character. (evolving with rarity of your backpack ?)
- Toolbelt skins ( GEMLIN PLUSHIE accessory ?? could have some health potions dangling etc.)
- Other kinds of tokens or trinkets that could be attached to the belt
- Bolder skins for weapons AND head. (Imo the 2 gear emplacements that are the most exciting to customize. I really think devs should consider steering away from “you have to see what your ennemy wears” in terms of gear, it will just be too limiting in the long run to allow people to customize their character.
On top of that, having only head and weapon slots that are heavily customizable; still leaves the rest of the gear to be visible and readable for potential ennemies.
- execution custom anims and voicelines ? what if this was a way to further make the classes come alive ? voicelines would be great.
Other suggestion regarding cosmetics and the ability to tell the rarity level at a glance;
Might be costly to design and model but maybe armor cosmetics could have levels of rarity as well, just like current gear does, so even if we have a skin that replaces the base gear, it’s still possible to tell what rarity we are wearing. Would also make it more exciting to upgrade said skins to get the “full version”.
We’re playing a fantasy RPG, i think being able to fully customize your character is something a lot of people (me included) will really appreciate in the future.
